Professional Bio My name is Ned O’Brien and I am the Founder and Lead CLVS of C3 Depos, LLC, a Chicago-based legal video and technology team specializing in deposition and litigation support. As an NCRA-certified Legal Video Specialist (CLVS) with nearly a decade of experience, I’ve built a small but dedicated team of NCRA-certified professionals and OnCue-trained exhibit tech specialists who bring precision, professionalism, and composure to every assignment — whether in person, remote, or hybrid. Experienced legal videography specialist with in-person, remote, and hybrid/live-stream depositions and arbitrations. Expert knowledge of professional audio and video recording, editing, and syncing. Expert in troubleshooting technical issues both in-person and remotely to ensure the highest standard of recording professional audio and video, including, but not limited to, online conferencing/communication software, such as Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, and Teams. Expert with exhibit presentation using software such as OnCue and ExhibitView. Molloy & Associates, and Deratany & Kosner. ○ Consistently execute and maintain industry standards, including but not limited to: ○ Commuting to various locations, arriving at least an hour before the scheduled deposition time in business attire; ○ Properly and efficiently set up and disassemble equipment for a deposition and execute the steps necessary outside of the equipment for a successful proceeding (i.e., placing participants in correct locations while keeping in mind the locations of natural and artificial light, doors, outlets, and other factors that could affect the proceeding); ○ Understand how to troubleshoot technical issues or unforeseen environments and circumstances where creativity may be necessary in overcoming challenges in certain spaces, such as medical facilities or residences; ○ Understand client’s expectations and effectively communicate with all participants (i.e., court reporter, counsel, deponents, etc.) before, during, and after proceeding; ○ Properly communicate and record introduction, stipulations, and read-on; ○ Correctly manage any audio interference, other interruptions, or media-unit or participant-requested breaks, including discreetly communicating with counsel in the event they forget to take a required break in the midst of questioning; ○ Capture flawless video and audio record of proceeding in its entirety to a formatted, labeled, and dated SD card with a backup recording to a flash drive by (i) having deponent as the only individual in frame, centered, with a small amount of space above their head, their hands in the shot, with nothing else cluttering the shot to the left or right of them; (ii) unless there is no room, utilizing a professional gray photography backdrop; (iii) ensuring the time (hours, minutes, and seconds) and date stamp appears at the bottom of the recording at all times; and (iv) ensuring no automatic settings are applied to video (white balance, iris, ISO, focus, etc. are all manually set prior to beginning of the deposition); ○ Keep a clear, detailed, and accurate record to be saved and submitted along with the recordings; ○ Submit necessary video log paperwork–including case caption and NOD, after confirming all information with the court reporter, taking-attorney, and deponent ○ Archive media units for a year on a cloud storage system ○ Ask if video orders are needed from all members attending ● Apply and modify the “traditional” CLVS recording standards and methods for in-person proceedings to fully remote situations. ● Understand and apply the full capabilities of Exhibit Share software, such as OnCue and ExhibitView, and be able to anticipate, reference, and display the requested documents as they are requested throughout the deposition. ● Provide advice to large deposition agencies on revising standard protocols to pre-emptively address potential technical issues, both with equipment and directing deponents, attorneys, etc., concerning proper proceeding protocol. ● Conduct yourself in a professional, composed, and helpful manner at all times and under any circumstance.
